Description

Apple crisp belongs to a long line of simple baked desserts that combine fresh fruit with a topping of pastry. This recipe is easy to make and delicious, with a thick, crunchy, cinnamon topping over brown sugar coated apple slices.

Ingredients

  • 6 c apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 T granulated sugar
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1 c brown sugar, packed
  • 3⁄4 c uncooked old-fashioned oatmeal
  • 3⁄4 c flour
  • 1 t ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄2 t salt
  • 1⁄2 c cold butter, cut up

Instructions

Place sliced apples in an ungreased 8 x 8 square glass baking dish; sprinkle with granulated sugar and drizzle with vanilla.

Mix brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until crumbly; sprinkle mixture over apples. Bake 30-35 minutes at 375 degrees, or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
